Most bodybuilders don’t realize that fiber should be an important supplement during the pre-competition weeks. In the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, researchers reported a fiber/protein supplement with exercise resulted in greater fat loss than exercise alone. The study compared overweight subjects and assigned them to an exercise group or an exercise group plus protein and fiber supplement group for 10 weeks. The supplement group consumed 1 shake/day (weeks 1 and 2) and 2 shakes/day (weeks 3–10). At the end of the study, the group consuming the protein/ fiber supplement had consumed fewer calories than the exercise alone group which may be explained by the satiating effect of high protein and fiber. Muscle mass increases were also greater in the exercise plus protein/fiber group compared to exercise alone. Total cholesterol and LDL decreased only in the exercise plus protein/fiber group. The good news about this study is that it suggests a high protein/high fiber supplement causes weight loss and increases gains in muscle mass by reducing appetite. Consuming a FIBERLYZE/ISOLYZE shake combination will enhance fat loss by blunting appetite and promoting more satiety during the day which can, ultimately, enhance fat loss.
