Frequently Asked Questions?

PRODUCT: LIPOLYZE & SOMALYZE

What sets LIPOLYZE apart from the thousands of other fat burners?

LIPOLYZE can be best categorized as a caloric wasting supplement.  Whereas most fat-burning formulations on today’s market depend on stimulants such as ephedra (rarely seen today), caffeine, and synephrine at SPECIES, we reject the premise that the only effective way to burn fat is to “stimulate” the body into action.  While stimulants do increase metabolic rate, they also increase the production of catabolic (muscle-wasting) hormones such as cortisol.  As cortisol levels rise in the body, lean muscle tissue is broken down, immune system function is suppressed, and dangerous abdominal belly fat deposition is increased.

Remember, the quantity of lean muscle in the body is highly correlated with the basal metabolic rate (BMR).  Less muscle means a lower BMR!  If stimulant-based fat burners are used to help shed unwanted body fat, there’s a very good chance that, once they’re discontinued, metabolic rate will significantly decrease and the predisposition to gain unwanted body fat will significantly increase.

If this scenario wasn’t bad enough, consider the fact that stimulants raise blood pressure, increase heart rate, and increase anxiety levels.  What this means is that individuals with a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or brain chemistry abnormalities should certainly steer clear of these compounds. LIPOLYZE is the most potent non-stimulant based fat burner that’s legally available today!

What is USNIC ACID and how does it work?

Usnic acid, the key ingredient in LIPOLYZE, is what’s known in the field of biochemistry as an uncoupling agent. Usnic acid, which is derived from a simple plant lichen, essentially “uncouples” or disconnects the ATP-producing machinery and thus releases all the potential energy that was supposed to be used to produce ATP.  Due to all the energy and ATP loss (which is dissipated as heat), the muscle cells must dig into stored body fat and oxidize additional fats to ensure that optimal energy levels are maintained within the cells.
The following analogy should help explain how Usnic acid exerts its energy wasting effect in the human body. Imagine someone putting a hole in the gas tank of your automobile. The car would still perform at maximal capacity; however, it would require a significant amount of additional fuel to travel the same distance it had before the punctured tank. Likewise, Usnic acid creates temporary “holes” in the mitochondrialm membrane which then results in the loss of valuable “fuel” (ATP) from the “tank” (muscle cell). To combat this energy loss, additional fatty acids must be oxidized toensure optimal performance levels.

Even more exciting is that fact that Usnic acid “wastes” calories without elevating blood pressure, without raising heart rate, and without causing any central nervous system stimulation. An individual can, literally, swallow a dose of Usnic acid, fall asleep, and start burning fat; even while unconscious.

Individuals who consume 36mg of Usnic acid per day usually notice a slight
increase in body temperature. This phenomenon is due to the fact that lost energy escapes from the body as heat. Remember, warmth is a good indicator that the Usnic acid is effectively wasting energy and thus burning fat.

Do I have to take LIPOLYZE and SOMALYZE together?  Couldn’t I just add one LIPOLYZE before bed?

I read a story about a woman who claims that after taking 500mg per day of Usnic Acid, her liver “shriveled up and died”.  I think the title of the newspaper article was entitled, "She lost her liver trying to lose weight"? I remember reading an MD interview with Dave Palumbo where the interviewer brought up a similar story and Dave responded by saying that if someone took a huge amount of Valium, or even Vitamin C, they would screw up their liver too.  Insane as this may sound, if someone actually took enough LIPOLYZE or SOMALYZE to equal 500mg per day [36 pills], would it damage their liver like in the above story?

Usnic acid causes cellular energy-wasting by allowing potential energy that could be used to synthesize ATP to leak out of the cells via “leaky” mitochondrial membranes. Because of this energy loss, the cells must compensate by oxidizing additional fatty acids in order to ensure that adequate ATP levels are maintained.  Whenever fatty acid oxidation in increased, the production of free radicals is also increased; and too many free radicals can potentially damage the cells integrity.  This is where antioxidants come into play.

Several in vitro (cell culture) studies have demonstrated that massive amounts of Usnic acid can damage liver cells. Remember, this data has only been observed in petri dish conditions; not in the living organism.  It should also be remembered that cells grown in petri dishes have one distinct disadvantage over cells found in the living body; there are no antioxidant systems to protect against free radical-induced oxidative damage. With this fact in mind, these same studies revealed that by adding a simple antioxidant like vitamin E to the cell culture media, cell damage was drastically reduced (if not eliminated).

The human body has a large array of endogenous antioxidant systems such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, catalase, and various peroxidases that effectively neutralize most free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress.  Additionally, LIPOLYZE and SOMALYZE are both fortified with green tea extract and Vitamin E which further serve to reduce the threat of antioxidant damage within the cells.

I was reading how LIPOLYZE and SOMALYZE waste energy (ATP) inside the muscle cells.  Wouldn't that meant that there’s less ATP available for workouts?

These Usnic acid-based supplements only uncouple the oxidative phosphorylation reactions that occur in the mitochondria where fats are oxidized.  If you remember your biochemistry, anaerobic respiration (without oxygen) takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell (not the mitochondria).  It uses glucose (without oxygen) and produces ATP and lactic acid.  Wasting ATP in the mitochondria, has nothing to do with ATP production in the cytoplasm that's used for weight training!

Why doesn’t SPECIES have it’s own creatine product?

Whenever I start taking fiber, I get cramps and I bloat really bad. What's up?

Dextrose can be considered a simple sugar and waxy maize (amylase) starch is a high molecular weight carbohydrate. Waxy maize is 100x bigger than maltodextrin, 300x bigger than dextrose, and it moves through the stomach 80% faster than either dextrose or maltodextrin.  Because of the speed with which it’s absorbed, waxy maize spikes insulin to the same degree as glucose. Aside from the obvious advantage of less stomach bloating, you may be wondering what the real advantage of this designer carbohydrate is.
Here's a simple analogy: Imagine you're swimming in the ocean and a cruise ship passes by.  The sheer weight of the ship displacing all that water will cause a vacuum that’ll, very effectively, suck you into the wake of the boat. Now imagine that you're swimming in the water and a jet ski passes by. In comparison to the cruise ship, the jet ski barely weighs more than you do and, consequently, won't affect your position in the water.  Similar to the cruise ship, waxy maize starch (because of its sheer size) pulls water--as well as any other nutrient (amino acids, creatine, or glutamine) that’s present-- into the blood stream and, ultimately, into the muscle cells where they can be used for muscle growth and repair.

ISSUE: HOW TO ORDER SPECIES OTHER THAN ONLINE?

How come I can’t  find any Species products at retail stores like GNC or online at one of the popular internet supplement stores?

SPECIES is committed to maintaining the highest quality and most effective products in the industry; and this goal come with a hefty price tag attached to it.  Innovation, quality, and purity are all rare qualities in today’s industry.  Many of our competitors use cheap ingredients and creative labeling in an effort to convince the consumers they’re purchasing the best products for their goals.  This lends well to the retail stores that can purchase the products cheap at wholesale, add a significant mark-up, and still convince the consumer it’s a good value.

There’s no doubt that large profits are sacrificed with a commitment to quality; however, SPECIES products, simply stated, are the best that money can buy!
